Behind the sleek, modern coiffure of our cover and fashion pages this month is brilliant young talent Jooe Yunedi. Jooe started his career in hairstyling in 2014, when he was still in school in Palangkaraya, Kalimatan. He gained his interest in hairdressing from watching his mother cut and style people’s hair.
When he’s not hairstyling, Jooe also dabbles in video editing as a content creator and runs his family business. Jooe’s talent and hard work has taken him to many places, including Thailand to represent Indonesia at the ASEAN Skills Competition 2018 in the hairdressing category. “It was an amazing experience for me, and I also got to meet great, talented people from different countries.”
Positivity and poise play an important part in Jooe’s success. He faces challenges with ease and calm, which is one of the reasons he is much sought-after for major beauty and fashion projects in Jakarta. “I really hope I can inspire people with my work, and one day I can go international in terms of hairdressing.”
A word of wisdom to those who want to try their luck in the hair and beauty industry, “Stay relevant by keeping your eyes on the trends, watch a lot of tutorial videos so you gain more skills, and whatever it is, don’t ever give up on chasing your dreams.”
