Star Ferry

The Star Ferry crossings at Victoria Harbour are not only a commuter crossing between Hong Kong Island and Kowloon, this short boat ride is also well known as one of the world’s best sightseeing trips. Tracing all the way back to 1880 with a steamboat named the Morning Star, the ferry ran at all hours with the trip lasting about an hour. In 1898, a businessman purchased all of the boats, which had grown to a fleet of four, and the Star Ferry Company was born. Its name derives from the ferries, all of which have the word “star” within their names. In 1998, the company celebrated its centenary with its fleet of nine now serving two routes, as well as providing the only licensed harbour tour in Hong Kong. The tour lasts an hour and starts in Tsim Sha Tsui and goes on to Central and Wanchai before returning to Tsim Sha Tsui providing tour-goers with a variety of harbour views throughout.
