Vishal Sanadhya – Hotel Manager at Four Seasons Hotel Jakarta

Q: What are your responsibilities as the hotel manager of Four Seasons Hotel Jakarta?
A: I am responsible for all day-to-day operations, and to continue creating extraordinary moments of delight for our guests that really sets us apart. This include custom-made stays for families, couples and business travellers alike. From the moment they arrive, guests can look forward to a succession of highly curated experiences that celebrate their uniqueness. My team and I look forward to deepening our links with the community. Think of Four Seasons as a stage for social theatre, where global visitors and local residents can connect and mingle.

Q: You started your hospitality career quite young. What attracts you to the industry in the first place?
A: The hospitality industry’s allure is found in its opportunities to meet new people, work collaboratively with a diverse team, and embrace the human aspect of service. I am drawn to creating memorable experiences for guests, fostering genuine connections, and being part of a dynamic environment where every day presents fresh challenges and opportunities for growth. The satisfaction of making someone’s stay special and leaving a positive impact is what truly inspires me in the hospitality industry.

Q: As a seasoned hotelier, can you share with us your most unique experience with a guest?
A: Throughout my tenure, I have met numerous guests, creating fond memories during each interaction. The unique experience is when a guest shares how our team went above and beyond to craft a lifelong memory of their stay. This brings me immense joy, which I can then celebrate with the team.

Q: What’s a typical working day for you?
A: A typical workday is dynamic and filled with diverse responsibilities. I start by reviewing the daily operations, ensuring each department is well-prepared to deliver exceptional service. Throughout the day, I interact with guests, addressing their needs and feedback. Staff management, team meetings and training sessions are essential parts of my day to maintain a motivated and skilled team. Overall, my day revolves around ensuring guest and employee satisfaction, smooth operations and upholding the hotel’s reputation.

Q: Which one do you prefer: team player or team leader – and why?
A: I consider myself both. As a team player, I value collaboration, actively listen to others’ ideas and support my colleagues to achieve common goals. Simultaneously, as a team leader, I take charge when needed, providing guidance, inspiration and direction to achieve success. I am a big believer in the power of “why.” When team members know the big picture and understand the reasoning behind their responsibilities, they feel inspired to go above and beyond. To me, it’s important to share the “why,” not just the “what.”

Q: Name one really special thing about Four Seasons Hotel Jakarta.
A: One really special thing about my hotel is its unparalleled dedication to personalise guest experiences. The hotel’s exceptional attention to detail and genuine hospitality create a welcoming and unforgettable stay for every guest, making them feel cherished and valued throughout their time with us. Each employee upholds the Golden Rule, a guiding principle that embodies treating others as they would like to be treated. This ethos underscores personalised service, attention to detail, teamwork, integrity and continuous improvement. It shapes exceptional guest experiences and fosters a culture of respect, diversity and excellence.

Q: What do you think is most important trait to have in your work and industry?
A: I think the most important trait to have in this line of work is adaptability. Being able to embrace change, think on your feet and adjust to new situations allows you to thrive in dynamic environments. It empowers you to handle challenges with resilience, find innovative solutions and continuously grow both personally and professionally.

Q: Tell us one thing about yourself that not many people know.
A: Lately, I’ve grown fond of listening to vinyl records, which then developed into me gathered quite an expansive collection. As of this moment, I think I have more than 200 plates at home.
