Mason Elephant Park & Lodge

Mason Elephant Park & Lodge was first established in 1997 as a dedicated elephant rescue facility to help overcome the devastating deforestation and poaching in Sumatra. Now, more than two decades later, the park has become a fun and educational destination for travellers of all ages, home to 31 critically endangered Sumatran elephants – including four that were born in the facility. Sprawling across four hectares, the park’s landscape is reminiscent of the elephants’ original habitat in Sumatra.

What makes Mason Elephant Park different from its counterparts is that the park knows the importance of banning brutal and cruel training methods, and only uses repetition and reward techniques and patience. At Mason Elephant Park, the wellbeing and safety of the elephants are top priority and paramount.

Guests can enjoy the park’s various facilities and attractions, ensuring an unforgettable holiday for the whole family. The Bathe & Breakfast with Elephants programme is one of the most popular ones, where you can wash, bathe and ride bareback atop the elephants as they play in the bathing lake. With the Elephant Safari Ride, guests can roam the picturesque Taro jungle on top of elephants while learning to interact with the friendly giants.

If you’re not really a morning person, you might enjoy the Safari Under The Stars, where you can join a nocturnal excursion through the forest. The programme starts with the Elephant Education Show at dusk before going on the night safari ride. As a nice wrap up, you get to enjoy a gourmet set dinner or gourmet buffet dinner at Palm Grove by the lake.

While it is possible to have a day trip up to Mason Elephant Park, we would suggest you check out the lodge part of Mason Elephant Park & Lodge. The accommodation exudes luxury while at the same time being in theme with the lush park – providing a unique home away-from-home experience with elephants as your friendly neighbours. The best part of the lodge is that it’s equipped with a special deck that enables you to hop on an elephant right from your front door.
