Movida opens in Bali

Opening to great acclaim this January and already getting rave reviews from Bali’s foodies, MoVida’s blend of traditional and modern Spanish cuisine is proving popular on the Island of the Gods.

This stylish Spanish restaurant is the result of a partnership between the PTT Family, the group behind Bali institution Potato Head Beach Club, and Frank Camorra of MoVida, an acclaimed Spanish restaurant group from Australia.

Located in The Katamama, a soon-to-open all-suite boutique hotel adjacent to Potato Head Beach Club, this is the first overseas opening for MoVida after opening five in Australia. Showcasing the best of both parent companies, the Seminyak restaurant is also presenting brand-new ideas and concepts.

The MoVida Bali menu is inspired by its new, island location and climate, whilst retaining its famed Spanish character. MoVida co-founder Frank Camorra and MoVida Bali head chef Jimmy Parker are working with local farmers, who are now growing ingredients native to Spain especially for MoVida Bali.

“As part of the culinary approach for our Bali venture, we will be tailoring a number of our signature dishes to reflect the tropical landscape – our dishes will still feature distinct MoVida flavours, highlighting the best produce Bali has to offer,” said Camorra.

One wildly popular tapas dish is Anchoa, a wafer-thin crispbread topped by a salty anchovy, which in turn is topped with a smoked tomato sorbet making for an incredible sensation of flavours, textures and temperature. Another heavenly creation is the Cecina – air dried beef with truffle foam holding an organic poached egg.

In addition to a wide range of top quality tapas are the meats and fish from the josper oven, including whole baked halibut and the truly divine Central Javanese lamb shoulder with saffron potatoes.

Before heading into MoVida, stop by Akademi – headed by Director of Mixology Dre Masso – for some classic cocktails with a local twist that explore Indonesia’s tropical offerings. With an extensive range of premium spirits and house-made infused local arak, Dre and his team produce a fabulously interesting menu of drinks sure to tickle your fancy.
