The first in a series of highly anticipated DC-based films separate from the DC Extended Universe, Joker is directed by Todd Phillips from a screenplay co-written with Scott Silver. Dark and reflective and set in 1981, the movie follows Arthur Fleck, a failed stand-up comedian who is driven insane and turns to a life of crime and chaos in Gotham City. With Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker, starring alongside Robert De Niro, the movie is not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale.
In the Mistress of Evil, the complex and often dark relationship between Maleficent and Aurora continues to be explored as they form new alliances and face new adversaries in their struggle to protect the moors and the magical creatures that reside within. A sequel to the acclaimed 2014 film Maleficent, Angelina Jolie returns in the title role supported by former co-stars Elle Fanning, Sam Riley and Imelda Staunton, who reprise their roles, whilst Michelle Pfeiffer, Ed Skrein and Chiwetel Ejiofor add new characters.
