Rejuvenation in Rote

Seed Resort in Rote, Indonesia’s southern-most island, offers pure relaxation and a mind and body reboot at an idyllic, untouched sandy paradise. Here, guests can indulge in a complete break from modern life, balancing the off the beaten track feel with luxurious eco-friendly, organic beachside living at a resort powered entirely by self-sustaining solar power.

The boutique resort is a collection of just nine traditional bungalows with air conditioning, an open yoga shala, spa and a restaurant supplied with vegetables, fruit and herbs from its own garden or the local market. The menu includes vegetarian and vegan dishes, meat and fish, as well as homemade jams, nut creams, granola and freshly baked bread.

While experienced surfers are sure to head out to Rote’s nearby epic breaks, guests can also go snorkelling, paddle boarding through the mangroves, cycling or explore the island on motorbikes. If you’re just not feeling that energetic, take in the glorious natural beauty with a stroll along the beach, do some yoga, have a spa treatment or just relax with a book by the pool.

The resort is open all year round, while peak surfing swells can be found between May and September. Rote is surprisingly easy to access. A flight to Kupang is just two hours from Bali or three hours from Jakarta, then take a 20-minute onward flight or two-hour boat ride to arrive in Rote.
