An inspiring celebration where art, fashion, and culture intertwined to honour Indonesia’s timeless Batik tradition in contemporary style.
In celebration of National Batik Day, Pullman Bali Legian Beach presented Pullman Artist Arena: Batik Beyond Borders, an inspiring event that paid homage to Indonesia’s most iconic art form. Recognised by UNESCO in 2009 as part of the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, Batik represents craftsmanship, symbolism, and cultural identity, all of which were expressed throughout this vibrant celebration.
“Batik Beyond Borders reflects our dedication to nurturing creativity, celebrating culture, and presenting meaningful narratives,” said Ravi Khubchandani, General Manager of Pullman Bali Legian Beach. “It was more than an exhibition; it was an arena of ideas, performances, and connections that united tradition and modernity.”
The evening began with an intimate Batik Workshop led by acclaimed Indonesian painter Zulham Damanik (ZD), where guests created their own Batik-inspired artworks on canvas. Each participant took home not only their piece but also ZD’s signature, making for a memorable keepsake that bridged heritage and contemporary art.
As night fell, the Alun-Alun Garden came alive with an array of performances and showcases. Award-winning dance troupe Naluri Manca, champions of Amazing Dance Indonesia 2024, captivated the audience with a fusion of traditional and modern choreography. Fashion presentations by Allus Bali and Cap Bali, coordinated by Lenny Hartono Management, highlighted the elegance of Batik with models from global stages including New York Fashion Week and Miss Teenager Universe 2024.
