Stress-free Secrets

Sometimes being healthy is not just about consuming the right vitamins and nutrients. It’s also about self-care and making sure that your mind and soul are just as fit as your body.

Quality Sleep

A good night’s sleep is often overlooked when actually it plays a pivotal role in your wellbeing. A lack of sleep can lead to decreased productivity the following day. Falling asleep can be challenging when you have many things – worries included – on your mind. Try to improve the quality of your sleep by logging off your electronic devices, including phones, laptops and TVs. Avoid watching or reading the news before bed, and opt for something more relaxing, like taking a bath.

Eat Well

To completely give up delectable indulgences like sweet treats and snacks is next to impossible, we know. That’s why it’s better to alternate your meals with healthier options, instead of just changing your diet completely. Maybe skip the fatty pork belly this week and swap for lean proteins? Skip the potato chips today, have fruit salad instead, and later reward yourself with a frozen yogurt. Don’t stop eating, remember the key is moderation. A healthier body can lead to a better mood.

Get Moving

Not exercising enough can make anyone sluggish, and this can lead to a low mood. You don’t have to be an Olympic-level athlete to be fit, just keep your body moving regularly. If you have to work in front of your laptop all day, don’t forget to take a break and stretch. Take it up a notch by doing jumping jacks, or make it fun by dancing around to your favourite songs.

Friends to the Rescue

Not being able to leave home at the moment doesn’t mean you have to turn yourself into a hermit. Keep in touch with your family and friends. Catching up and sharing stories with your confidantes can help reduce anxiety. It’s a good thing we live in an era when video call applications are abundant – with good internet connection, it feels like you’re right there with your loved ones.

Time for Hobbies

Don’t associate staying at home with boring times. Having to stay inside is actually a great opportunity for you to do things you’ve always wanted to do but never had the time. Get into cross-stitching, or go back to your pencils and sketch book, if not now, then when? Doing hobbies that you love can also be calming for the nerves.
