The GoldenPass Belle Époque Takes Alpine Luxury Through Gilded Tracks

Step into a world of gilded grandeur on a legendary rail journey from Montreux to Zweisimmen, where the spirit of the Belle Époque whimsically transforms the Swiss Alps.

The GoldenPass Belle Époque is a journey like no other, offering a timeless and elegant way to travel from Montreux to Zweisimmen. This section of the GoldenPass Line is all about experiencing the golden age of travelling by train, with carriages that transport travellers back to the early 1900s. Complete with vintage wooden interiors and plush armchairs, the interior evokes the gilded optimism and romance of the Belle Époque period, hence the name.

Beginning in Montreux, the Belle Époque train traces the shimmering shoreline of Lake Geneva before gradually turning inland. Vineyards give way to rolling countryside as the route threads through the Gruyère district, where emerald pastures and traditional farmhouses define the landscape. From there, the journey continues into the Pays-d’Enhaut, a storybook region of timber chalets, quiet villages and forested slopes that feels gently preserved in time. Climbing steadily into the Bernese Oberland, the train arrives in the alpine polish of Gstaad, before continuing onward to Zweisimmen.

The journey takes approximately one hour and 45 minutes, yet somehow feels suspended in time. Through expansive panoramic windows, travellers witness a seamless unfolding of Switzerland’s natural contrasts, from lakeside light to mountain shadow and open valleys to rising peaks. It’s not as simple as a transfer between destinations, but a cinematic passage through landscapes that linger long after the train has reached its final stop.
