Marriott Hotels makes its debut in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka Prefecture, expanding its Japanese portfolio with a 236-room property, three signature restaurants, and a contemporary take on the city’s cultural rhythms.
At first glance, Hamamatsu, a city in western Shizuoka, may look like any other major Japanese city, not much different from Tokyo and Osaka that lie only 90 minutes away. But past all its urban glitz is a compelling history and cultural pulse, underpinnings that make it a destination in its own right. It’s only natural, then, that Marriott finds its way there, debuting in the city with the opening of Hamamatsu Marriott Hotel.
“Hamamatsu represents a significant opportunity to serve travellers in one of Japan’s most dynamic regions,” said Yuji Tanaka, Market Vice President for Japan and Guam, Marriott International. “The opening of Hamamatsu Marriott Hotel reflects our commitment to thoughtful expansion in destinations where we can deliver meaningful value to our guests through consistent, exceptional service and locally inspired experiences.”
That ethos is evident through its design, which, in all its simplicity, leaves nowhere to hide, demonstrating an acute attention to detail while being rooted in a sense of place. Following the concept of The Art of the Weave, the hotel’s appearance draws from Hamamatsu’s reputation as a centre of textile craftsmanship and musical innovation, the latter of which inducted it into UNESCO Creative City Network as a City of Music in 2014. Each of the 236 rooms are decked with calming wooden tones, textured greyscales, and subtle accents reminiscent of traditional loom structures, creating a palette that evokes the naturescapes of the nearby Lake Hamana and Enshu coastline.
Dining is equally well thought out as the hotel offers three destinations with distinct cuisines. Rochester utilises seasonal local ingredients for an international spread for all-day dining. Meanwhile, Inanba offers the comforts of familiar Japanese cuisine, including shabu-shabu and teppanyaki. But, diners seeking a more traditional sampling of the nation’s culinary customs can head to Chōtōkan for an immersive kaiseki dining experience. For some nightcap, visit the Greatroom for a laidback flow with refreshing beverages and delicate pastries.
Complimenting the stay are amenities like fitness and business centres, allowing urban vacationers and business travellers to keep up with their daily habits and routines. Its strategic location with easy connections to transportation hubs, cultural sites, natural reserves, and metropolitan lifestyle destinations, add a sense of seamlessness to anyone, whether they’re simply stopping by for a short time or searching for meaningful ways to immerse in the destination.
