Disney Cruise Line introduces its first Southeast Asian homeport with a theatrical ceremony aboard its newest and largest ship.
A theatre filled with music, familiar melodies, and a sense of anticipation marked a milestone moment for Disney Cruise Line. On 4 March 2026, the company introduced Disney Adventure to the world during a ceremonial christening in Singapore, signalling the cruise line’s first dedicated presence in Southeast Asia.
The celebration unfolded inside the Walt Disney Theatre on board the ship, where storytelling took centre stage. A 23-piece orchestra led the audience through well-known Disney, Pixar, and Marvel scores while visual projections transformed the stage into a cinematic spectacle. Regional vocalists joined the ensemble, including Filipino singer Jed Madela, a Hollywood Performing Arts Hall of Fame inductee, and Australian Eurovision artist Dami Im.
Special appearances from Captain Mickey Mouse and Captain Minnie Mouse added a familiar touch for guests gathered in the theatre. Screens surrounding the stage displayed dynamic visuals that shifted with the music, creating the feeling of stepping directly into the stories that define the Disney universe.
The ceremony also carried corporate significance. Josh D’Amaro, Chairman of Disney Experiences and incoming Chief Executive Officer of The Walt Disney Company, appeared on stage alongside Joe Schott, President of Disney Signature Experiences, to mark the introduction of the vessel.
A defining moment came when actor Robert Downey Jr., who serves as the ship’s official godparent, delivered the ceremonial blessing. Known globally for portraying Tony Stark in Marvel’s Iron Man films, Downey Jr. addressed the audience through a recorded message before leading the orchestra into the final christening declaration. “I christen thee, Disney Adventure. May God bless this ship and all who sail upon her,” he said, formally completing the maritime tradition.
The ceremony concluded with a large ensemble of Disney characters performing “Let’s Set Sail”, a musical finale that has become part of Disney Cruise Line’s christening tradition. The number built to a lively close, hinting at the experiences awaiting passengers.
Those experiences are extensive. Drawing on more than a century of Disney storytelling, the ship features seven themed districts inspired by well-known worlds and characters. One area recreates San Fransokyo from the animated film Big Hero 6, translating the fictional city into an immersive onboard environment.
Entertainment remains central to the vessel’s design. Guests will find a new Broadway-style production titled Remember, themed dining venues inspired by Disney narratives, and signature fireworks displays staged over open water. Families have access to dedicated clubs for children, while adults can explore a range of lounges and bars designed as relaxed social spaces.
Among the ship’s headline attractions is Ironcycle Test Run, the first roller coaster installed at sea for Disney Cruise Line. The ride circles the upper decks, offering sweeping ocean views during its high-speed course.
At 208,000 gross tons, Disney Adventure stands as the largest ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet and its eighth vessel overall. The ship begins its maiden voyage on 10 March 2026, launching an inaugural season of three- and four-night sailings departing from Singapore.
The debut forms part of a long-term fleet expansion. Disney Cruise Line plans to introduce five additional ships by 2031, signalling an ambitious push into new markets while continuing to build on its distinctive blend of storytelling and maritime travel.
