Melody Siagian – Director of Marketing & Communications at The Meru Sanur & Bali Beach Hotel, The Heritage Collection

Q: How would you describe your responsibilities?
A: Working for a state-owned hotel and resort within ‘The Sanur’ Indonesia’s Special Economic Zone for Health & Wellness has significantly advanced my professional journey. Leveraging my experience with international hotel brands, I strive to integrate global standards and best practices into the local context at InJourney Hospitality properties. My goal is to enhance each property’s brand identity, positioning them as symbols of national pride that can compete globally. This isn’t just about promoting hotels; it’s about elevating Bali as a premier destination for health and wellness while fostering quality tourism growth.

Q: What does a typical day look like?
A: I believe in maintaining balance for body, mind and soul. Regardless of the workload, I prioritise staying active through sports or any uplifting activities. Some days, I enjoy connecting with friends over conversations and music or running along the beach. Ending my day with reading, learning something new, meditating or journaling is essential.

Q: What’s the toughest part of your job?
A: In the hospitality and creative sectors, juggling multiple timelines and managing last-minute changes can be challenging. The toughest aspect for me is staying calm and focused under pressure, especially when facing tight deadlines. However, I’ve discovered that remaining open-minded and promoting open communication can greatly alleviate these challenges and support effective teamwork.

Q: What do you find most satisfying about your work?
A: I find immense satisfaction in seeing my work create a positive impact that achieves business goals while elevating brand values over time. Leaving behind a legacy that others can build on with their creativity is incredibly meaningful.

Q: Who has influenced you the most?
A: My biggest inspiration is my mother. She exemplified intelligence, independence, humility and nurturing qualities. From her, I learned the importance of resilience, lifelong growth and staying grounded amidst success.

Q: If you hadn’t become a marketing and communications director, what career path would you have chosen?
A: I would run my own business, become a certified wellness trainer and engage in philanthropy.

Q: What makes your properties different from others?
A: Our properties, situated in Indonesia’s first Special Economic Zone for health and wellness, symbolise the modern Indonesia envisioned by Sukarno. The revival of the iconic Bali Beach Hotel, along with The Meru Sanur, seamlessly combines heritage, wellness and contemporary sophistication rooted in Tri Hita Karana, honouring culture and upholding international standards. Together with the Bali Beach Convention Center and world-class medical facilities, we offer a unique destination that aims to lead the region’s tourism ecosystem through genuine Indonesian hospitality.
