Sophisticated Cultural Heritage

The St. Regis Hong Kong showcases the perfect marriage between the timeless elegance of old Hong Kong and the grandeur of New York City glamour.

Situated in the vibrant area of Wan Chai, one of Hong Kong’s oldest districts, The St. Regis Hong Kong is a feast for the eyes with its amazing architectural design. Under the hands of architect André Fu, who is also responsible for The Waldorf Astoria in Bangkok and Singapore’s Fullerton Bay Hotel, the 27-storey building pays homage to the rich cultural history of Hong Kong wrapped in opulence. Art is essential within the hotel and Fu has been a significant influence on the art collection, which features internationally renowned artists.

Taking inspiration from the first St. Regis in New York City, Fu also fuses the charm of the glamorous city to create a sanctuary in the middle of frantic Hong Kong. At the entrance, guests are greeted by oversized bronze panelled doors to mimic Hong Kong’s skyscrapers. Inside, the dramatic design features bronze screens to evoke the old window frames that were typical of colonial Hong Kong, while mouldings engraved in the marble on either side of the elevators reflect the classic New York vernacular of the first St. Regis.

With just 129 rooms and suites, Fu has created a harmonious play between classic and modernity. The colours inside the rooms are subtle chalky white with warm mineral grey and taupe. The beds are dressed in white linen with mauve cashmere throws to create a sensible living space where guests can maximise resting time after spending the whole day outside.

One of the highlights of the hotel is The St. Regis Bar, which celebrates the atmosphere of old New York City and Hong Kong with the feeling that one is in an exclusive private members-only club. Besides the warm tones and brass detailing, guests can see a masterpiece hand-painted by Beijing-based artist Zhang Gong. Inspired by the same mural by Maxwell Parish in The St. Regis New York, the art depicts many of Hong Kong’s most famous historic places, including old Wan Chai, the Hong Kong Star Ferry and Victoria Harbour.
