A new luxury voyage from The Apurva Kempinski Bali and Yacht Sourcing invites travellers to rediscover Indonesia’s historic spice trade through a phinisi journey across the archipelago.
The Apurva Kempinski Bali has partnered with Yacht Sourcing to launch Spice Route Voyage, a seven-day luxury journey inspired by Indonesia’s ancient maritime spice trade. The programme forms the centrepiece of the resort’s 2026 campaign, Powerful Indonesia: Spice Route Legacy, with the first voyages scheduled to set sail in April 2026.
For more than 4,500 years, the Indonesian archipelago stood at the heart of global trade, supplying coveted spices such as cloves, nutmeg, pepper, and sandalwood. These precious commodities connected the islands with distant civilisations in China, India, Arabia, and Europe, shaping trade routes and cultural exchange across continents.
Drawing inspiration from this history, the Spice Route Voyage offers guests an immersive exploration of Indonesia’s maritime heritage. Travellers will spend five days at sea aboard a handcrafted traditional phinisi schooner, sailing through waters once travelled by ancient merchants. Carefully curated seasonal routes include legendary spice-producing regions such as North Maluku, home to the famed clove islands of Ternate and Tidore, as well as the historic Banda Islands, once the world’s sole source of nutmeg. Voyages may also extend to the maritime cultures of South Sulawesi and East Nusa Tenggara.
After the sea voyage, guests return to Bali for a two-night stay at the resort’s Nusantara Presidential Villa, where the journey continues through curated cultural experiences. These include a Majapahit-inspired imperial dinner, a Spice Route cocktail session at L’Atelier by Cyril Kongo, afternoon tea, and a restorative treatment at Apurva Spa.
The collaboration reflects a shared commitment to honouring Indonesia’s maritime traditions. Founded in Bali in 2016, Yacht Sourcing is recognised for its fleet of handcrafted phinisi yachts and dedication to preserving the country’s seafaring heritage.
By bringing together luxury travel and historical storytelling, Spice Route Voyage invites guests to experience Indonesia not only as a destination of beauty, but as a living crossroads of culture, commerce, and history.
