The Datai Langkawi

The Datai Langkawi has been voted as one of the world’s most stunning resorts, where untouched natural beauty combines with opulence.

A legendary Malaysian resort, The Datai Langkawi is located on the northwest tip of the island of Langkawi in Malaysia. Nestled in the heart of a 10-million-year-old rainforest, the resort is a marvel born from from the vision of the late Australian architect Kerri Hill. First opening to the public in 1993, The Datai Langkawi sits on a forest ridge 40m above sea level and 300m from the ocean. After a complete refurbishment in 2019, the refreshed resort offers staying guests nature- and culture-based experiences right in the rainforest.

Consisting of 121 rooms, suites and villas, guests are treated to enchanting views of the lush tropical forest, with some overlooking the breathtaking vista of the Andaman Sea with Tarutao Island on the horizon. Inside, each room has been updated with the help of Didier Lefort from award-winning Paris-based design studio DL2A. Lefort’s approach is to marry simplicity, modernity and creativity with inspiration from the local environment, culture and materials. Moody lighting has been installed to create a more comfortable resting space for guests, while enhanced technology ensures the ultimate staying experience.

Embodying the resort’s DNA of man and nature, The Nature Centre is dedicated to offering more opportunities for guests to immerse themselves in nature. Led by the resort’s highly regarded naturalist, Irshad Mobarak, the space encompasses a library, tea corner and mini laboratories to allow guests, young and old, to discover more about the marine and rainforest environment that surrounds them.

Gastronomic experiences are found at the four dining outlets scattered from the jungle to the coastline: award-winning The Gulai House, The Pavilion, The Dining Room and The Beach Club, which pay homage to the exotic flavours and culinary traditions of the region. Leisure facilities include two swimming pools, a state-of-the-art fitness centre, an array of wellness activities, award-winning The Datai Spa, and Els Club Teluk Datai – the most scenic golf course in Southeast Asia designed by golf legend Ernie Els.
