The Westin Resort Nusa Dua, Bali Named Among Asia’s Top 10 Sustainable Hotels

The Westin Resort Nusa Dua, BaliThe Westin Resort Nusa Dua, Bali has been ranked among the Top 10 Sustainable Hotels in Asia in the Smart Travel Asia 2025 Reader Poll, securing the #7 spot. This recognition from the Hong Kong–based travel platform celebrates the resort’s continued leadership in sustainable tourism and eco-conscious hospitality.

Earlier this year, the resort achieved the prestigious Green Globe Certification, acknowledging its outstanding environmental performance and social responsibility. From renewable energy use to community engagement, sustainability is embedded in every aspect of the resort’s operations.

Energy-saving initiatives include heat pump technology that efficiently provides heating for water, rooms, and pools, and solar panel installations that generate clean energy and reduce electricity consumption by up to 30% each month.

In its culinary operations, The Westin Resort Nusa Dua, Bali champions local sourcing with 95% of ingredients at Ikan Restaurant sourced from nearby producers. Creative zero-waste practices, such as transforming overripe fruits into cocktails, and a partnership with Kelompok Mekar Sari for waste segregation, further demonstrate the resort’s thoughtful approach.

The resort’s Aerobic Digester, developed by Bali-based Shiva Industries, converts food waste into compost within 24 hours, enriching the resort’s gardens while diverting waste from landfills.

Beyond environmental efforts, the resort’s collaboration with Scholars of Sustenance (SOS) redistributes surplus food to local communities, while the Marriott Bonvoy Good Travel programme fosters meaningful guest interactions with students of SLB Negeri 1 Badung, a school for children with disabilities.

“We are deeply honoured to be recognised among Asia’s most sustainable hotels,” said Sander Looijen, General Manager. “This accolade reaffirms our commitment to environmental stewardship and community empowerment, ensuring every guest experience contributes to a greener, more connected future.”
