Tressabel Hutasoit Marketing and Communications Consultant at Bali Island School

Q: How would you describe your responsibilities in 10 words?

A: Orchestrate Bali Island School’s marketing strategies to highlight critical thinkers and learners.

Q: What’s the toughest part of your job?

A: I wouldn’t say any part of the job is ‘tough’, but the most challenging aspect is certainly the intricate scheduling. We strive to integrate our campaign activities into the students’ academic lives, which requires careful coordination with numerous parties. This involves close collaboration with teachers to understand curriculum demands and ensuring that parents are fully informed and supportive of our initiatives.

Q: What do you find most satisfying in your work?

A: Observing students’ growth and purpose early in life is truly inspiring. However, the most valuable aspect is that I learn a great deal from these young minds. Additionally, having full access to our rich library is a major mood booster for me!

Q: Name one really special thing about Bali Island School?

A: It is the first and most established International Baccalaureate Continuum School in Bali. Continuum means it offers academic and personal rigor, providing high-quality education for students aged three to 19 through the Primary Years Programme, Middle Years Programme and Diploma Programme.

Q: What skills does one have to possess to be in the position that you are right now?

A: Creativity and the ability to find inspiring stories are essential. Excellent social and organisational skills are also important, as we need to collaborate with various parties from different demographic.

Q: What career path would you have pursued if you had not chosen this one?

A: I would have pursued writing books. I recently published my first book, Untuk Perempuan Biasa, or loosely translated to For the Ordinary Woman. I also envision travelling the world to help disadvantaged children gain access to books.

Q: If you could work with anyone in the world, who would that be and why?

A: I would choose to work with Shel Silverstein, a writer and cartoonist. I am fascinated by his unique way of thinking and would love to learn from him.
