Twofold Nyepi Celebrations at Four Seasons Resorts Bali

With two distinctive locations at Sayan and Jimbaran Bay, Four Seasons Resorts Bali looks to its surroundings, identities, and the rituals of Nyepi to present celebratory activities in observance of the Balinese Saka New Year.

Four Seasons Resorts BaliThere are many hallmarks of Bali’s Day of Silence and Saka New Year holiday: an explosive Ogoh-Ogoh parade, winding down to a total standstill as full quietude blankets the island, and rituals encouraging spiritual cleansing and energy renewal. All these celebratory customs come together at Four Seasons Resorts Bali for an immersive stay anchored by local traditions.

In the calm of the highlands, riverside Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan leans into the tranquillity of its terroir to usher in Nyepi. Craftsmanship takes centre stage as guests are invited to weave coconut leaves into hats, bowls, and ornaments through the traditional artistry of klangseh or build elaborate fruit towers called gebogan as a form of ceremonial offering. On the holiday’s eve Pengerupukan, the Visuddha Truth Chakra Yoga is set to open the throat chakra and inspire honesty, while the next day, Ajna Perception Chakra Yoga calls for intuitive awareness as a prelude to an evening of meditation under twinkling stars.

Celebrations at the southwestern tip take on a different approach as Four Seasons Resort Bali at Jimbaran Bay becomes the only hotel on the island to host an Ogoh-Ogoh parade, symbolising the triumph of good over evil. It’s a six-week culmination of artistry and sustainability, as the two-metre monster was crafted from upcycled paper, bamboo, clay, rattan, and scrap iron. Dancers, gong players, and a troupe lead a procession on 18 March, but guests who miss it can still witness this marvel perched at Sundara until the day after Nyepi.

For the quieter moments, this oceanfront outpost welcomes the Day of Silence with Chakra Darshan Yoga, designed to awaken the divine Kundalini energy. A Sila Giri Kesarah Temple Experience and Nyepi Storytelling beckon guests to the Resort Temple for some blessings and a deeper look into the holiday’s lore. Complimentary workshops offer a more hands-on involvement, from Askara calligraphy to crafting Balinese Canang offerings, sweet rice cakes, and herbal health tonics. Both resorts also welcome little ones with curated activities, especially at their Kids Clubs, ensuring the holiday provides ample opportunity for gathering with the family.

“Nyepi is a beautiful reminder of balance,” shares Randy Shimabuku, General Manager, Four Seasons Resorts Bali. “In stillness, we find peace and perspective. At Four Seasons Resorts Bali, we are honoured to share this sacred celebration with our guests: a unique moment to pause, reflect, and reconnect while experiencing the true heart of Bali.”
