Plataran Bromo Resort & Venue has been confirmed as the official host for the Bromo Marathon 2025, with more than 2,000 runners set to take on the challenging route through the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park this September.
Plataran Bromo Resort & Venue has once again been appointed as the official venue, as well as the start and finish line, for the Bromo Marathon 2025. The international running event, now in its 12th year since debuting in 2013, will take place on 7 September 2025.
The Bromo Marathon is recognised for its unique and challenging course. Runners in the full marathon category will tackle steep descents and climbs, reaching an altitude of 2,491 metres above sea level. Along the way, participants will pass through Tenggerese villages such as Ngadiwono, Pandansari and Mororejo, misty valleys and dramatic volcanic slopes, all within the UNESCO-recognised Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park. The route combines physical endurance with cultural encounters and some of Indonesia’s most striking natural scenery.
As part of its PlataRun Series, Plataran integrates sports tourism with its philosophy of nature, culture and community. Each year, Plataran supports or hosts nine run series across Indonesia, ranging from fun runs and marathons to trail runs, often in collaboration with Legenda Khatulistiwa to highlight national parks.
Dedik Kurniawan, representing the organisers, said Plataran Bromo was chosen for its facilities and proven ability to host large-scale international events.
“Plataran Bromo has once again been chosen as the official venue for the Bromo Marathon, this time supported by Bank Jatim, because the location and facilities provided by Plataran are the best for hosting an international-scale marathon with a large number of participants in Bromo,” Dedik said.
Anasthasia S. Handayani, Director of Plataran Indonesia, added that the venue’s selection reflects its role in advancing sport tourism in East Java, reinforcing Plataran Bromo’s position as both a leisure and MICE destination.
“The return of Plataran Bromo as the official venue for the Bromo Marathon reaffirms the organisers’ trust, based on past experiences, that Plataran Bromo is the best venue for staging the Bromo Marathon. It also underscores Plataran’s support for Next Level Tourism in Bromo and East Java more broadly, not only as a leisure destination, but also as a hub for MICE,” Anasthasia.
Registration for the 2025 race closed on 7 August after reaching the maximum quota of 2,167 participants.
