The Art of Silence for Nyepi at The Apurva Kempinski Bali

The Apurva Kempinski BaliAs Bali comes to a standstill for its Day of Silence Nyepi, The Apurva Kempinski Bali brings back Mauna: The Art of Silence, a three-day retreat of wellness in quietude.

Every year, Bali slows down to a full stop for 24 hours as Nyepi, the Hindu Day of Silence, blankets the whole island. This is the inspiration behind The Apurva Kempinski Bali’s specially curated wellness journey, Mauna: The Art of Silence. As the holiday approaches this March, the Nusa Dua resort is reintroducing this retreat on the 18th through the 20th as a way for guests to immerse themselves in this quintessentially Balinese day of observance.

Four transformative pillars guide the whole journey. Mindfulness, exercise, nutrition, and sleep become the touchpoints of this path to self-discovery and spiritual exploration, inviting guests to enter a world of mental clarity and well-being. Amid the noiseless environment, this experience leads participants into a reflective period, fostering an atmosphere to extend the quietude inward.

On the eve of Nyepi, mindfulness opens the experience, beginning with the sacred Opening Circle Ceremony, a cleansing ritual that leads into a Mauna Meditation session. It’s a prelude to the following morning’s Spirits of Renewal exercise programme for a physical energising to pair with the mental refresh.

Sleep takes centre stage next as the journey progresses to the Sleep Seminar and Deep Sleep Meditation, reframing how one approaches rest. Mindfulness takes over once more as the closer, bookending the three-day retreat with a Fire Ceremony and Balinese Purification ritual at the Geger Temple to mark the Balinese New Year. A Closing Circle Ceremony of gratitude meditation encourages guests to honour the peacefulness and carry the energy forward, with a spa treatment at the Apurva Spa as a final treat.

Those who want to take things a step further can opt in on nutrition inclusion. It arrives with three dining experiences that promote mindful eating, conscious nourishing, and slow savouring. Programmes include the Ārogya Rijsttafel dinner, inspired by the rich tradition of Indonesian culinary harmony; Poshana Prakriti, a balanced spread featuring wellness shots, wholesome breads, and light treats of both savoury and sweet; as well as the Samatva Ōjas hot pot dinner that brings together premium seafood, organic poultry, and fresh seasonal vegetables in a nourishing broth.
