Q: Describe your responsibilities in under 10 words.
A: Protecting and telling the story of two Four Seasons Bali resorts.
Q: What makes a typical day?
A: No two days look the same, which is half the fun. It’s usually a mix of media and content review in the morning, then a stretch of writing or editing: press releases, talking points, briefs, then followed by stakeholder catch-ups with various commercial team members. Throw in guest communications, a press enquiry or two, and planning for whatever’s next on the calendar (a chef collaboration, a media event, visiting media, a digital campaign), and that’s the rhythm.
Q: What’s the toughest part of your job?
A: Holding two distinct property identities with such history as Jimbaran Bay and Sayan have with equal care, while making sure every story still feels authentically “Four Seasons.” The pace doesn’t slow down for that complexity either; reactive work (a guest notice, a last-minute media request) always competes with the proactive storytelling you actually want to be doing.
Q: What do you find most satisfying in your job?
A: Watching an idea go from a concept document to something a guest actually experiences, whether that’s a chef series, a media dinner, or a media visit to hard copy magazine content coming to life. There’s something deeply satisfying about shaping a story and then seeing it land exactly as intended.
Q: Who has been the most influential figure in your career?
A: A friend and former colleague, Megan Sanders, without question. What’s stayed with me is her tenacity and that can-do attitude, even in the moments she probably doubted herself internally. She had this fire paired with real humility: if she didn’t know how to do something, she wasn’t too proud to ask someone who did. That combination, which I see as ‘drive without ego’, is something I still try to carry into how I work.
Q: Name one really special thing about your hotel?
A: That’s like asking me to choose a favourite child. At Jimbaran Bay, it’s the authenticity of the Balinese village that was set out 33 years ago, which still conveys that same message as clear as the day we welcomed that first guest. At Sayan, it’s the quietude that gives way to the might and flow of the Ayung River at the foot of the property. When architecture that’s as visionary as it is grounded in place collides with the wild of the jungle, something sacred is born.
Q: How do you unwind?
A: Writing, mostly; poetry has always been my way of processing a full week. Otherwise, it’s travel. Paris and India are still my two favourites, precisely because they couldn’t be more different from each other.
Q: If you hadn’t taken this career path, what would you have chosen?
A: Probably something in writing or publishing where I could still concentrate on storytelling but in a quieter, slower form than hospitality PR.
