Amidst an artistic landscape that continues to demand visual stimulation, Jati Andito finds strength in commanding power through his voice. His career, which began with a stint as a radio announcer in Jakarta, has flourished into multiple impressive notches under his belt: dubbing iconic Disney characters into the Indonesian language, making and performing music as an indie artist, and most recently, becoming the voice acting director for the Indonesian animated film Garuda di Dadaku.
His whimsical imagination brings the right amount of theatrics into each role, bending his voice and inflexion to fit the needs of the character. It is then paired with movement, which ties the performance together; as the famous Filipino voice actor Rudolf Baldonado Jr. once said, “Your voice will follow your body.” Still, a sense of performance is paramount in working as a voice actor, which requires a lot of internalisation to understand each role’s demands and necessary stylistic choices.
Beyond that, Jati uses his voice as a powerful tool. From leading online classes to using his platform to speak on global ongoings like the Palestinian genocide and pressing national political issues, he continues to raise awareness and bring people together, exerting a positive influence within the Indonesian voice acting community.
