Marriott International Indonesia Lights Up the Future for Tafuli

A village deprived of its most vital need receives relief at last.

Marriott International Indonesia is a staple of sustainability and community support, and its commitments match just that. In collaboration with Solar Chapter, Marriott International Indonesia continues to be a driving force for the growing Water for Tafuli project, which helps to provide clean water stops in Tafuli, a remote village in the Malaka District of East Nusa Tenggara. Commencing on 2 September 2022, the project came from humble beginnings and is now almost complete just a year later.

Up to 65,000 litres of water are efficiently channelled from the Benenain River daily to cater to 12 public faucets across Tafuli through a distribution pipeline system. The strategic network is powered by 18 solar panels using a submersible pump and spans 3km around. Water scarcity has been prominent in the area for generations, putting a fork in the development of agriculture, public health, education, hospitality and communal prosperity.

On 17 August 2023, representatives from Marriott Business Council Indonesia were privileged enough to witness water beginning to flow into the Upper Reservoir in the village, a truly significant moment for the local community.

Marta Tafuli, the Village Chief of Tafuli Village, said the following about the exciting occasion, “On behalf of the people in Tafuli, I would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to all who have given their support to this cause. We are thankful for the fruitful and successful collaboration between Solar Chapter and Marriott International Indonesia. Tafuli Village now enjoys sustainable access to water, which we believe will significantly enhance public health, sanitation, agricultural productivity, education and communal development.”
