Nostalgic Parahyangan Escape Revives the Spirit of the Legendary Jakarta–Bandung Railway

A new collaboration between Plataran Indonesia, KAI Wisata and Whoosh revisits one of Indonesia’s most memorable rail routes, connecting culture and contemporary travel through a carefully curated experience.

There are some trails that stick around for eternity even after you have reached your destination. The rail link from Jakarta to Bandung is one such route for many Indonesians. People can relate this journey with fond family memories, memories from college life, trips on weekends and so much more that was experienced while seeing different landscapes pass through train windows.

That sense of familiarity forms the starting point of Nostalgic Parahyangan Escape, a new programme presented by Plataran Indonesia in collaboration with PT Kereta Api Pariwisata (KAI Wisata) and Whoosh. Inspired by the legendary Parahyangan Train, which first began operating on 31 July 1971, the experience revisits a route that has occupied a distinctive place in Indonesia’s transport history for more than five decades.

The timing feels particularly relevant. Even though modern-day travel is associated with efficiency and speed, there is a rising awareness of the importance of travel experiences which enable one to pause and immerse themselves in their surroundings in a deeper sense. Bandung, a known location associated with education, creativity, and ideas, offers the perfect venue for this experience.

Instead of only looking forward to the destination, it is equally significant for the programme that the journey itself becomes part of the whole package. Guests will start their day by first visiting the KAI VIP Lounge in Jakarta, after which they board a private Panoramic Train to Bandung. During this ride on the traditional Parahyangan rail line, guests can see magnificent mountainous landscapes and other natural sights, as well as villages and towns through which this train has traveled many years ago. These sites are complemented by the chosen snacks by Teras by Plataran and accompanying storytelling sessions.

The train ride itself forms a natural prelude to the wonders that Bandung will unveil to you soon. On arrival at their destination, they will be introduced to some of the city’s best-known sights, forming a programme that effortlessly merges transport history with architecture and local traditions and modern-day hospitality. The new perspective that Nostalgic Parahyangan Escape gives on a very special railway route is thus born.
