Roman Soleh Director of Marketing & Communications at Vertu Harmoni Jakarta

Q: How would you describe your responsibilities?

A: In my role, I lead the marketing efforts for Vertu Harmoni Jakarta, with a strong focus on building the hotel’s brand visibility. I manage the brand and marketing team and oversee the development and execution of strategies that elevate our presence. It includes handling all aspects of marketing communications, digital initiatives, social media engagement, forming strategic partnerships and being directly involved in brand and marketing activations.

Q: What makes your property different from others?

A: Being the only Vertu-branded property under The Ascott Limited allows us to create a distinct experience for our guests, where fashion, jazz and contemporary touches come together. On top of that, our prime location in the heart of Jakarta means guests are right in the middle of everything, with easy access to transport, tourist spots, exhibition venues and the Golden Triangle business area.

Q: What makes a typical day?

A: I usually start the day with a cup of black Americano with no sugar. Then, I check my emails and write out my to-do list. Each morning, I have a short catch-up with my team to go over what’s trending and ensure everything’s running smoothly, before heading into our morning meeting with other department heads. The rest of the day is filled with lots of communication, working closely with different teams and just getting things done while enjoying the process.

Q: What’s the most challenging part of your job?

A: For me, the challenge lies in navigating stakeholders’ different expectations and perspectives. Some marketing efforts show quick results, while others, especially those centred on long-term brand building and market reach, take more time but usually bring more meaningful returns.

Q: Who has been the most influential figure in your career?

A: My late father has always been the most influential figure in my life and career. Even during our family’s most challenging moments, he taught me that there’s always a solution to every problem. That sense of optimism he passed on has helped me face challenges at work.

Q: What do you find most satisfying about your work?

A: The chance to work with such a great team and the fact that I’m constantly learning are the most fulfilling parts of my job.

Q: What does your day off look like?

A: Weekends are all about mum and food! I value the time I get to spend with my mother. She’s a big fan of local flavours, so we’re often on the hunt for hidden culinary gems around Jakarta. Other than that, I usually join cardio classes at the gym with a few friends. It is a fun way to stay active and unwind.
