Cianjur-based artist Alexander Chris takes over ARTSPACE at Mangkuluhur ARTOTEL Suites with a bold and whimsical exhibition that blends memory, history and fantasy as he invites you to step into a world where imagination knows no bounds.
Jakarta’s art scene just got a little more curious and we’re absolutely here for it. Step through the metaphorical rabbit hole at Mangkuluhur ARTOTEL Suites, where the spotlight shines on “Lost Boy in Wonderland”, a thought-provoking exhibition by rising Cianjur-based artist, Alexander Chris.
Curated by the ever-insightful Agung Frigidanto, this exhibition is more than just a visual delight. Expect a glorious mash-up of chaotic magentas, splattered paint, and surreal dreamscapes that’ll have you questioning reality in the best way possible. Chris invites us into a wonderland where time bends, identity shifts, and memory becomes fluid.
His work may look playful at first glance, but dig a little deeper and you’ll find a layered exploration of modern anxieties—how we cope, how we remember, and how we move forward. Think of it as a diary entry, only abstract and drenched in magenta.
“This exhibition represents our commitment to supporting local emerging artists and opening up space for meaningful dialogue between art and the human experience,” shares Andreas Kahl, General Manager of Mangkuluhur ARTOTEL Suites. And yes, the hotel is clearly serious about becoming a cultural destination, not just a chic place to stay.
Alexander Chris isn’t just creating eye candy, he’s building worlds. Beyond his work as an artist, he’s also known as a curator and cultural advocate in his hometown. In other words, definitely someone to keep on your radar.
Lost Boy in Wonderland will be on view at ARTSPACE, Mangkuluhur ARTOTEL Suites until August, so you’ve got plenty of time to lose yourself in his curious and compelling wonderland.
