Andry Kurnyawan – Director of Public Relations & Marketing at InterContinental Bali Resort

Q: How would you describe your responsibilities in under 10 words?
A: Creative, innovative, market interest, consistency, brand awareness and generating revenue.

Q: What makes a typical day?
A: A typical day for a hotelier can be dynamic and diverse, involving a wide range of responsibilities and tasks to handle. Overall, a hotelier’s typical day is characterised by a balance of operational oversight, guest interactions, staff management, strategic planning and a focus on delivering exceptional hospitality experiences.

Q: What does your day off look like?
A: On my day off, I enjoy relaxing, exploring, and pursuing hobbies such as travelling – simply wandering around the island’s attractions, but most of all, I love spending time and creating memories with my son and wife.

Q: What’s the toughest part of your job?
A: Being a hotelier comes with its own set of challenges, and the toughest part can vary depending on the specific circumstances and individual perspectives — it’s impossible to make everybody happy. Despite all the challenges, being a hotelier can also be incredibly rewarding. It offers the opportunity to create memorable guest experiences, build a strong brand and be a part of the vibrant hospitality industry.

Q: What do you find most satisfying in your job?
A: There are several aspects of the job that I find most satisfying. These include the opportunity to interact with a wide range of people. It’s also gratifying to witness the positive impact of a well-executed marketing campaign. Ultimately, it all comes down to guest satisfaction. When guests appreciate and enjoy their stay due in part to effective communication and marketing efforts, it reinforces the value of the work I do and encourages me to continually improve.

Q: Who has been the most influential figure in your career?
A: It might sound cliché, but my parents have been the most influential figures in my career. Their endless support and encouragement have kept me going, helping me face challenges and view problems from a positive perspective while staying optimistic.

Q: Name one really special thing about the InterContinental Bali Resort.
A: It’s an iconic five-star beachfront resort strategically located in Jimbaran Bay, offering panoramic sunset views.

Q: Tell us something about you that most people don’t know.
A: I can handwrite Balinese characters.

Q: If you had not taken this career path, what would you have chosen?
A: I love to sing, so maybe I’d be a singer.
