Jeremy Brook – Director of Sales & Marketing at InterContinental Bali Resort

Q: How would you describe your responsibilities in under 10 words?
A: Creating a harmonious and productive team environment to work in.

Q: What makes a typical day in your line of work?
A: A typical day in the life of a hotelier is usually fast-paced and furiously rewarding, with a lot of fun to be had with the team.

Q: What does your day off look like?
A: Pretty much the same as my answer to the question before. It’s fast-moving, furious and a lot of fun. During my days off, I try to spend time with family and friends going sightseeing around this beautiful island. Being a first-timer to this island, work-wise, there are so many things to do and see. Between weekend catch-ups at a café or a drive to the hilly sides of the island to see the beautiful sunrise, it’s been quite magical!

Q: What’s the toughest part of your job?
A: Not having enough time for everyone. I have to wear a lot of hats in this role to make sure everyone can accomplish their objectives without any problems,  From coming up with ideas for the ideal activations for each department to ensuring that they are all carried out properly.

Q: What do you find most satisfying in your job?
A: The ability to find the time to coach and develop individuals is, quite honestly, the most fulfilling aspect of working in this field. Throughout my career, I have been fortunate enough to work with some of the best mentors, and I always try to give back to the next generation. It takes a village to make something successful, and it is also important to remember that teamwork makes the dream work.

Q: Who has been the most influential figure in your career?
A: My mother. She always told me to follow my gut and just do it, and, of course, to do it while having fun!

Q: Name one really special thing about your hotel.
A: The sincere hospitality from all the staff to make sure every guest’s needs are met. I firmly believe that the hospitality industry was designed with Balinese people in mind. I was surprised by their willingness to go above and beyond in order to leave a lasting impression. Our staff always has a big smile on their faces, from the moment guests arrive to check in until the moment they depart the property.

Q: Tell us something about you that most people don’t know.
A: Although my days off are spent fast and furious, I can listen to music for hours to relax. Being able to relax with a good drink and some music after a demanding workday is something I frequently look forward to.

Q: If you had not taken this career path, what would you have chosen?
A: A teacher or a talent scout looking for up-and-coming musicians, perhaps.
