A new travelling exhibition across Bandung, Semarang, and Bali invites guests to discover the story of the critically important Javan Hawk-Eagle, highlighting how protecting Indonesia’s national bird is inseparable from safeguarding the island’s forests and biodiversity.
When talking about Indonesia’s wildlife, the Javan Hawk-Eagle (Nisaetus bartelsi) is rarely mentioned. This species is not only the lord of the skies but also a national treasure teetering on the brink of extinction. With only 600 to 900 individuals remaining, it is no surprise that sightings of this majestic avian are so rare. For this reason, Padma Hotels has partnered with the Djarum Foundation to host a special event: a travelling exhibition dedicated to the conservation of the Javan Hawk-Eagle. Running from 28 July to 23 August 2026, the exhibition will travel across Padma Hotel Bandung, Padma Hotel Semarang, and Padma Resort Legian, encouraging guests to learn about one of the country’s most iconic yet increasingly threatened endemic species.
It is not only to conserve this national treasure, but this event is also designed as an immersive educational experience; the exhibition combines visual displays, informative panels, and compelling conservation stories that trace the Javan Hawk-Eagle’s journey, from extensive population and habitat surveys across Java to the development of the Java Hawk-Eagle Conservation Strategy and Action Plan (SRAK). The initiative reflects a collaborative effort involving researchers, conservationists, government institutions, the private sector, and local communities working together to ensure the species’ long-term survival.
More than a national symbol, the Javan Hawk-Eagle plays a vital ecological role as an apex predator found only on the island of Java. Its presence serves as an important indicator of healthy tropical forests, ecosystems that support extraordinary biodiversity while providing clean water, climate resilience, and essential environmental services for millions of people. Yet the species continues to face mounting threats from habitat loss, forest fragmentation, illegal wildlife trade, and increasing human disturbance.
