Sailing in Style

Roam the sea and discover the richness of Indonesia aboard Sequoia, a classic wooden yacht with five-star facilities and services.

As a country made up of more than 17,000 islands, Indonesia’s natural beauty practically encourages travellers to roam the most secluded beaches and dive the unbelievable wonders under the sea. Out of this ardour, Coral Triangle Safaris (CTS) was established in 2017 as a way to introduce more of Indonesia’s hidden marine gems to travellers. The thing is, most of these treasured destinations are only accessible by sea, so CTS presents a unique means of travel in style.

Behold, Sequoia, a classic, hand-crafted wooden yacht, inspired by Indonesian Bugis boat construction, and laden with magnificent details and bespoke five-star services. The classic beauty comprises a charming bow deck and an even more fabulous sky deck, where guests can sunbathe, enjoy al fresco dining or simply bask in the great outdoors. With a master suite and a guest suite, Sequoia welcomes four people on board for the voyage of a lifetime.

Equipped with US-manufactured marine technology, the elegant boat puts safety, sustainability and efficiency first, with a no-smoke low emission engine, so you can be sure that your journey will be smooth sailing. Should you need to reach one of the secluded paradise islands or shallow water, the 7m Boston Whaler Dauntless speedboat is all prepared to take you around.

Nine full scuba diving sets – including two for children – are at your disposal, and a dive master is ready to guide your way under the surface. If you’re more into lazing around above water, you can kayak or stand-up paddle board, or even go tubing and water-skiing. Everything you imagine you would possibly need is provided aboard Sequoia, all you have to prepare is a sense of adventure.

CTS’ moniker is of course inspired by the Coral Triangle, spanning 6 million sq.m. and six countries – from the Philippines to Timor-Leste, home to over 76% of the world’s coral species, 3,000 fish species, including the majestic whale shark. With the aim of showing these rich natural marvels to a broader audience, Sequoia has prepared trip itineraries that cover the best regions in Indonesia to witness these wonders.

The West Papua itinerary includes The Bird’s Head Seascape, The Twilight of Kaimana and of course, the ever-popular Wild Raja Ampat safaris. Meanwhile, the Moluccas Islands are home to exotic spices like nutmeg and cloves – hence the nickname “Spice Islands”. Deep-sea roamers will be happy to know that in the waters of the Moluccas barracudas and hammerhead sharks are often encountered.

The fun isn’t just underwater, as the Sequoia team will take you on island excursions such as climbing one of the grand volcanoes and discovering the vibrant cultures and traditions in these regions. The Lesser Sunda Islands safari also sees trekking the Kelimutu Volcano and visiting Watublapi Village to marvel in the delicate and meticulous traditional weaving culture. The comprehensive Sequoia team will arrange practically anything that you want, from regular dining in the great common room to night picnics on the beach, from kid-friendly activities to watching the cinema under the stars.

Speaking of which, our team got the chance to travel on Sequoia and we must say that the highlight was the crew – who within the span of four days felt more like family. Based on the experience, it’s safe to say that by sailing on Sequoia, you can leave your fun quality time in the expert and professional hands of these people. Second-hand stories are not enough to describe the unforgettable experiences gained, so we say, go book a trip and don’t look back.
