Reflecting on a career spanning over two decades, Andien discusses artistic maturity and personal growth across varied musical genres in her ninth album, Sehidup Semusik, and how this new era reinforces her style choices.

Q: How does your latest album, Sehidup Semusik, reflect your personal growth at this stage of your life?
A: Looking back, each release corresponded to a specific phase of my life. I was in junior high during the making of my first album, high school for the second, and so on. Sehidup Semusik arrived at a point where I felt settled across those personal milestones, having married and started a family. Conceived like a mixtape, the 13 tracks brought in different producers, allowing the musical styles to shift from song to song while carrying distinct messages.
Q: You have been in the music industry for 26 years. Over that time, how has your perspective on music and the definition of success evolved?
A: Initially, music was simply an enjoyable hobby. Over time, it became a platform to share ideas with greater purpose and reach. I also used to view success as something waiting at the top of a mountain. With experience, I realised there is always another peak to climb. Rather than chasing a single finish line, I now find genuine satisfaction in meeting the short-term goals I set for myself.
Q: Your fashion choices often feature traditional Indonesian textiles and homegrown designers. How important is it to spotlight Indonesian fashion heritage through your work?
A: As a fellow creative, I want people to see how exceptional local design truly is. The Indonesian fashion scene is forward-thinking and driven by talented individuals. For me, wearing local pieces goes well beyond personal style; it is about actively championing regional designers and their vision.
Q: Do you have any upcoming projects on the horizon?
A: I recently released the music video for the single Naksir, and my primary focus over the coming year will be touring and sharing Sehidup Semusik with audiences across the region.
